Fellow Ozians. Good news! The Wicked: For Good trailer is finally here! Holy shiz.
After falling in love with the witches of Oz in the first film last November, we just got our first peek at the second part, which will see the two enemies-turned-friends-turned-political rivals picking up several years after the dramatic finale of the first film — Elphaba has taken to the western skies and Glinda has settled into a role alongside the Wizard and Madame Morrible. And Fiyero has danced his way to the head of the Ozian army.
The first trailer is just as emotional as we could have imagined. It includes the first snippets of songs like “No Good Deed” and “For Good,” as well as plenty of glimpses of what is to come. Spoiler alert — prepare to cry through your green paint in the cinema.
Here's everything else we know about Wicked part 2.
Wicked part 2 release date
There's not long to wait now. The release date for Wicked 2 is Friday 21 November 2025 — and the press tour, it seems, will be kicking off soon!
Wicked part 2 title
The title of the second installment was revealed in a joint Instagram post from stars Ariana, Cynthia, director Jon M Chu and the official Wicked Instagram account.
The post reads: “You will be changed. Wicked: For Good, only in theatres November 21, 2025.💚🩷,”
For Good is a perfect addition to the movie's name for its second part, as it's the name of the big emotional song performed by Elphaba and Glinda in the second half of the stage show – it's all about female friendship and what they mean to each other. Tissues at the ready for when we watch Ari and Cynthia perform this.
Wicked part 2 cast
The second movie has already been filmed, so we know that the cast we know and love from part one will be returning, including Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Ariana Grande (Glinda), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard of Oz), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Ethan Slater (Boq), Marissa Bode (Nessarose), Peter Dinklage (voice of Doctor Dillamond), Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James.
We'll update this article in the event of any new castings for Wicked part 2.
Wicked part 2 plot
The second film is based on the events that occur in the second act of the stage shows, which sees a man hunt for Elphaba begin, led by Fiyero. While Glinda has been given the mantle of ‘Glinda the Good’ by the Wizard of Oz himself, Elphaba is now officially known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Meanwhile, her sister Nessarose has become the Wicked Witch of the East, a cruel governor over Munchkinland.
When Nessarose is crushed by Dorothy's house as a result of her arrival in Oz, Elphaba abandons her plans to do right by the people and animals of Oz and vows to actually be “wicked”.
A new press release (as well as the new trailer) gives us a few more details. We know, for instance, that the film will add a wedding between Glinda and Fiyero — something that never occurs in the stage show.
“It’s life or death for all of them, so a wedding seemed appropriate,” Chu told Vanity Fair. “It’s harder to forgive certain things in certain scenarios,” he adds. “It makes it more complicated.”
The press release also states that Glinda “attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart.”
The synopsis concludes, “As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.” (If the synopsis can make us cry, we don't stand much of a chance in the cinema.)
Wicked part 2 songs
If, like the first film, all of the songs from the stage show are included, the soundtrack will look something like this:
Thank GoodnessWonderfulI'm Not That Girl (Reprise)As Long As You're MineNo Good DeedMarch Of The Witch HuntersFor GoodFinale
Plus, Chu has confirmed that there are at least two new songs in the film — one for Elphaba and one for Glinda.
“They’re great additions to this movie. They were necessary in this movie to help tell the story,” he said to Vanity Fair. “To have Stephen Schwartz back behind the keys — it’s pretty extraordinary to watch him work.”
