The 78th Cannes Film Festival is finally here.
This much anticipated film festival is easily rivaled by the celebrity guests walking the famed red carpet in their custom made designer ensembles and adorned with diamonds. Of course we love the films and celebrate the filmmakers that are fortunate enough to premiere their movies at this prestigious festival. But we cannot deny the opulence and drama of the garments on the red carpet.
Some of our favourite celebrity attendees did not disappoint while others left us slightly underwhelmed. One of the best looks of the festival thus far, undeniably belongs to fashion photographer Nima Benati. Her custom dress by Elio Abou Fayssal from their ABAD Collection was handcrafted in their atelier. The leather corset was sculpted in the colour oxblood, fused with a dramatic taffeta draped skirt and satin duchess train. The jewellery was kept to a minimum with stunning diamond earrings adorning her ears and her neck remaining bare to ensure the focus was on the sculpted corset.
Natalie Portman wore Dior by Maria Grazi Chiurri in an evening dress in tulle and black velvet, embroidered with silver scales. The look was inspired by the Mexico model from the Winter 1951 haute couture collection. Zoe Saldana went for an understated look in a YSL black evening dress paired with a black leather jacket. Compared to the more opulent gowns on the carpet this look might seem bland or safe but I love the fact that it is chic, fits her well and screams fashion especially with the jacket.
Ariana Greenblatt looked flawless in emerald green Louis Vuitton. The colour was a perfect foil for her skin tone and dark hair. Once again jewellery was kept to a minimum to not distract from the dress. Halle Berry's dress left a few of us divided but I will give her points for the diamond necklace that graced her neck.
