Trust Perfume: The business attractant fragrance transforming first impressions

Trust Perfume is designed to enhance the subtle, subconscious signals that influence how others perceive your credibility, competence, and presence — often within seconds of meeting. As the first business-attractant perfume launched in South Africa, Trust is designed to enhance your presence, amplifying influence, sharpening impact and leaving a lasting, memorable impression.

GLAMOUR spoke to Odette Newman of Afrodite Essence about her journey in developing Trust Perfume, exploring its mission and the effects it aims to achieve.

GLAMOUR: What is the main concept behind Trust Perfume as the first business-attractant in South Africa?

Odette Newman: The idea behind Trust Perfume is to amplify the subconscious signals that shape others’ perceptions of your credibility, competence and presence — often within moments of an interaction. As the first business-attractant perfume introduced in South Africa, we have established a new category that transcends traditional notions of seduction and romance. Trust is not aimed at making you “sexy”; instead, it focuses on enhancing your influence, impact and memorability. Notably, few products globally prioritise pheromones for professional influence over mere sexual attraction, positioning Trust as both unique and transformative.

G: What are the key ingredients in Trust Perfume, and how do they contribute to its attraction properties?

ON: Trust is crafted with analytical-grade pheromones, which represent the highest purity available, and a carefully curated fragrance composition. The selected pheromones are designed to enhance perceptions of approachability, reliability and emotional safety, rather than eliciting direct sexual arousal. These compounds interact with the brain’s subconscious scent-processing pathways, subtly influencing behavioural responses before rational thoughts take over. The fragrance is purposefully sophisticated and has a neutral yet luxurious quality, allowing the pheromones to function effectively without overwhelming the senses.

G: What benefits does Trust Perfume offer to users beyond just fragrance?

ON: In addition to its exceptional scent, Trust serves as a presence-enhancing tool. Users often describe feeling more confident, grounded and socially at ease, while others perceive them as more trustworthy, composed and competent. It contributes to stronger first impressions, boosts confidence in professional environments, facilitates smoother communication and rapport-building, and elevates executive presence. In summary, Trust enhances not only how you smell but also the way you are perceived by others.

G: Who is the primary target market for Trust Perfume, and what characteristics define this audience?

ON: Trust is crafted for ambitious, self-aware professionals, particularly women in business, leadership positions, entrepreneurship and high-visibility roles. This audience places a high value on personal development and strategic self-presentation, recognising that true influence extends beyond skills and credentials. Additionally, it appeals to both men and women who work in high-stakes environments — such as negotiations, presentations, networking, sales, media and leadership — where perceptions can significantly impact outcomes.

G: How does Trust Perfume differentiate itself from other pheromone-based perfumes, both in South Africa and globally?

ON: While most pheromone products tend to focus on sexual attraction, Trust takes a different approach by emphasising credibility, emotional safety and influence. Key differentiators include a pheromone architecture tailored for business contexts, the use of analytical-grade pheromones (as opposed to cosmetic-grade), and precise dosing to maximise effectiveness.

G: What are some similar products in the market, and how does Trust Perfume compare to them in terms of effectiveness?

ON: Internationally, there are several pheromone products designed primarily for attraction; however, few specifically target professional or social influence. Many of these products emphasize strong sexual pheromones, which may come across as inappropriate or overwhelming in business environments. In contrast, Trust Perfume stands out through its subtlety. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to enhance perception without being overly pronounced, making it suitable for various professional interactions.

G: How does Trust Perfume align with current fragrance trends in the market?

ON: The fragrance industry is actively moving toward functional perfumery— creating scents that offer more than just pleasant aromas. Consumers are increasingly interested in fragrances that positively influence mood, boost performance, enhance confidence and promote well-being. Trust aligns seamlessly with this trend by merging aspects of neuroscience, personal branding and luxury fragrance, while offering a clean, elegant scent profile that appeals to modern preferences.

G: Can you describe your personal journey in conceptualising Trust Perfume, including any inspiration or personal stories?

ON: Throughout my years of working closely with women in corporate environments, and later as a businessowner, I observed a consistent pattern: incredibly capable women often went unrecognised. This wasn’t due to a lack of skill but rather a perceived absence of authority or trust in various settings. This observation sparked my fascination with the need for a product that could enhance perception and bolster confidence, ultimately leading to the creation of Trust Perfume.

G: What are some of the challenges you faced in developing the product?

ON: One of our primary challenges was sourcing the right expertise. It was essential to find a formulator who adhered to our stringent standards for quality, efficacy and safety, as this was crucial to maintaining the integrity of the product. After securing this expertise, we faced the challenge of achieving balance. Pheromones are inherently powerful, and in a professional context, precision is vital — too much can feel intrusive or inappropriate. Additionally, we conducted extensive testing across various users, environments and real-life situations to ensure that Trust performed consistently and subtly in the intended settings.

G: How does Trust Perfume aim to reshape the perception of pheromone perfumes in South Africa?

ON: Trust seeks to transform the understanding of pheromones, and showcase them as sophisticated and strategic rather than gimmicky or overly sexual. Our goal is to highlight pheromones as intelligent tools that enhance confidence, leadership and influence, particularly for women who wish to be recognised for their professionalism without compromising their femininity or values.

G: How is Trust Perfume prepared to adapt to shifting consumer preferences and trends in the fragrance industry?

ON: As consumers continue to seek purpose-driven luxury, Trust is committed to evolving alongside these changing preferences. We will continue to innovate our offerings to meet the demands of a discerning audience.
