These trends set the SAFW runway on fire!

South African Fashion Week kicked off last night in Sandton City with the Style By SA exclusive to Woolworths showcase. Fashion favourites Rich Mnisi, and Sandiso Khumalo giving us some serious winter fashion inspiration. Their collections were not only super high-fashion but surprisingly wearable which we are all about. And what’s better than supporting home-grown designers?

Woolworths also put on a serious show, revealing their Edition collection which was my personal favourite. The styling was on point and there was something for everyone.

But let’s take a closer look at the trends that came through and how you can adapt them to your everyday wardrobe.

Rich Mnisi

His ready-to-wear collection for the Style By SA had the classic Rich Mnisi stamp on it with bold colours, classic silhouettes but with a modern twist. Think innovative pleating, layering and stand-out colours.

On the flip side, his second collection was all about androgynous fashion. Think men in feminine coats and ladies in strong, structured silhouettes. Taking a closer look at the outfits you will find intricate details, as well as clever layering without looking overdone. To add an avant-garde twist the over-sized hats were the cherry on top!

Thebe Magugu

Thebe Magugu wowed the crowd and we at GLAMOUR loved his showcase. From the clever colour blocking to the deconstructed coats, we were all about these looks. The standout colours in this collection were mustard yellow, pink and black. Which we have been seeing all over the international runways. And to top it all off the Matrix-esque glasses gave the looks that extra edge. It’s a yes from us!

Sandiso Khumalo

Pastel colours were the order of the day in this stunning collection. Classic winter coats, felt hats and oversized metallic bags were the key highlights. Sandiso is also definitely trying to bring back the legging, layering the looks cleverly, showing us that leggings aren’t only appropriate attire for those lazy days on the couch. This collection was definitely for the classic girl who wants to invest in timeless pieces while still being trendy. And what more could you want?

Edition by Woolworths

Hands down a fashion favourite. If you are looking at turning some heads on the streets then this is your go-to collection. The classic red, navy and white colour combination coming through giving the look an athleisure feel. The key items that GLAMOUR suggests investing in this winter are the bold red puffer jacket, the side stripe joggers and a duster coat. Accessories wise? We are OBSESSED with the silver boot, this will easily elevate any look from drab to fab. Another cool trick we saw was the turban underneath the beret. This is a cool upgrade from the classic beret while still keeping it fashion forward. And last but not least- the moon bag. Also known as a fanny pack or bum bag for obvious reasons. Speaking from a personal moon bag lover they are the most convenient thing one can own. Gone are the days of scratching around in that oversized tote bag! And not to mention the hands’ free element, now you are able to text while holding that double latté. Score! Anyway love it or hate it they are going to be huge this season so take a fashion risk and try it for yourself. Overall it’s a yes from us to Woolworths!
