When singing sensation Busiswa sang the line ‘Ungabhuda uthi nasi iSlay Queen ngendlela ase Style.n ngayo uChommy wam’ (The way my friends are so stylish You may be mistaken and think they are slay Queens) on her song with Prince Kaybee Banomoya, she had women like Dr Nandipha Magudumana in mind. Yes she slays the fashion game, but don’t get it twisted, she ain’t here to be just a face or be a blessee, she is a powerhouse medical practioner and business woman. Here are a few things you may not have not about her, and if you already knew about it, it’s okay, we can all make as much noise as we can for sistas who are disrupting the status quo in their fields.
Dr Magudumana is 29 years old and is originally from Port Edward in KZN.
She holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree (BHSc) in Biomedical Sciences, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), both from Wits University.
She is the founder and chief executive of Optimum Medical Solutions. As to why she started Optimum Medical Solutions, Magudumana says it was mainly to get capital to help her study further and also to help other black women to enter the medical services market. ‘I saw there was a need for African people, especially black women, to enter the medical services market. There aren’t many African black women in this industry, I thought it was important that we start entering this market and educate our people about it, ‘ she told Business Report in a recent interview.
Dr Magudumana was one of our 2018 GLAMOUR’s Most GLAMOURous winners.
Her company has managed to attract over 500 clients from all over the continent since it opened its doors in 2017. ‘We are into aesthetics which deal with dermatology and plastic surgery. We are also focused on pharmaceuticals,’ Magudumana says about her business.
