As one of the world’s most exciting culinary hotspots, Cape Town’s most storied waterfront hotel, Cape Grace joins forces with London’s legendary Savoy Hotel to serve up a limited-edition afternoon tea experience, launching this August.
Bringing together two Fairmont icons from across the world, this special collaboration celebrates the adored tradition of afternoon tea - created with a distinct South African Twist. Set within the beautiful surrounds of Heirloom, the hotel’s flagship fine dining restaurant, The Savoy Afternoon Tea will run on select dates this August.
Three members of The Savoy’s esteemed team, hailing from both London and South Africa, will travel to Cape Town to co-create the experience alongside the Cape Grace team. The result being a refined menu inspired by seasonal local ingredients, and infused with the hallmarks of The Savoy’s signature style. Think sandwiches such as coronation chicken and Franschhoek smoked trout, to The Savoy’s signature raisin scones served with clotted cream, and patisserie highlights including the famed strawberries and cream cake - a favourite from the London menu, now brought to life in Cape Town.
Joining the Cape Grace team from The Savoy will be:
- Liesl Booysen, a South African-born sous chef, classically trained at Le Cordon Bleu, with a passion for fermentation and Asian cooking traditions.
- John Almeida, a celebrated Pastry Chef de Partie whose recent appearances on The Great British Bake Off: The Professionals have cemented his reputation as one of the UK’s rising stars in chocolate and pastry artistry.
- Dylan Martin, originally from Johannesburg, now based at The Savoy’s Gallery Restaurant, bringing a warm and intuitive hospitality approach to this Cape Town homecoming.
