Women in Art - 10 Years of Investec Cape Town Art Fair

With over 25 000 visitors, 106 exhibitors from 18 different countries, 337 artists showcased and 6 700 VIPs, Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2023 was a resounding success. There were more than 130 female artists who participated in this tenth edition of the Fair.

Below are insights pertaining to the women of the Fair:

The Fair director Laura Vincenti as one of the few female directors of art fairs in the world. A qualified architect, Vincenti has lead the growth of the Fair in her broadened role as director since 2016. Vincenti gained valuable experience managing the design of Italian art fair Artissima, as well as other large-scale art biennales and international exhibitions, which she has used to place Investec Cape Town Art Fair on the global art calendar.

The entire female team that produces the Fair

There were three participating galleries who focus on women who are socially and politically active and have strong feminine angles, such as Prometeo Gallery Ida Pisani (Italy) as well as SEPTIEME Gallery (France) who showcased an artist from Iran.

Tomorrows/Today was curated by female curators, Natasha Becker (San Francisco, United States) and Dr. Mariella Franzoni (Barcelona, Spain).

A Decade of Achievement

In presenting and welcoming participating galleries, Investec Cape Town Art Fair Director Laura Vincenti said, “Investec Cape Town Art Fair continues to evolve and grow with those who support it. Together with this extraordinary visual arts community, we have created a platform for the advancement of all. Our progress has not been confined to the visual arts sector, because we have had a positive impact in all areas related to our practice. Investec Cape Town Art Fair welcomes you. Cape Town welcomes you. Together we will reflect on an amazing decade and plan the decade ahead.”

The 2023 edition provided a moment to reflect on the fair’s impact, in bringing the visual arts community under one roof and creating a platform for the advancement of the sector. By bringing together a diverse group of celebrated exhibitors, including prominent galleries from around the globe, Investec Cape Town Art Fair has also provided an opportunity to showcase Cape Town, the city’s people and their creative achievements.
