Meghan Markle is reportedly breaking royal tradition in a huge way on her wedding day

If there’s one thing Meghan Markle loves breaking, it’s royal protocol. Whether she’s wearing her hair in a messy bun or  spending Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan doesn’t take the more ridiculous royal traditions to heart — and that’s a good thing. It shows she’s doing this whole British monarchy thing on her own terms — and in her own way. Which is incredibly refreshing.

Naturally, this attitude is translating to her wedding plans. Meghan will tie the knot with Prince Harry on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, and while details haven’t been confirmed, several rumours about the nuptials sound like quintessential Meghan. For one, there’s the report Meghan wants her  mother to walk her down the aisle and not her father, which is against tradition. And now a new report claims Meghan wants to shake her big day up in another way: by giving a speech at the reception.

According to the  Sunday Times (via  The Independent,) Meghan is planning on saying a few words following her wedding ceremony if her father doesn’t speak for her. (This report also claims Meghan’s father is walking her down the aisle, which contradicts claims she wants her mother for the job. If anything, that proves just to take all of this with a grain of salt.) Meghan apparently wants to give an “affectionate” tribute to the queen, Prince Harry, and her friends and family, which breaks royal traditions.

Meghan acted on  Suits for seven seasons, so we’re sure she’ll have no problem giving a speech if this is true. That being said, it’s a little troubling the bride speaking at her wedding reception is “breaking” tradition in some way. Here’s hoping Meghan’s speech ends that archaic rule once and for all.
