Following an ultra-impressive showing of covetable handbags on the runways of recent fashion weeks, we’ve collected the styles that you’ll want to get your hands on, and found affordable alternatives to the designer models that are probably already on your lust-have list.
Structured handbags
Large, structured handbags were one of the major trends. Saint Laurent showcased their Sac du Jour, a bag that comes in two sizes – classic and small – and has been compared to the Hermès Birkin bag because of their similar features – although this one is way more affordable. For even more budget-friendly options, click through to five must-have structured handbags from our April 2014 issue.

The bag comes with rules. Hook your arm over a duffle bag with small straps and hold it against your hip as you would a football (don’t know what we mean? Good excuse to check out some pictures of footballers, than), rather than hooking your arm under the strap. Victoria Beckham had her models hold her bags this way during the runway shows.
The bigger the better
Victoria’s line also consisted of large, structured leather bags in lots of different colours. Karen Walker and Chloé were other clothing lines that also went with the trend. This bag is perfect for any day, whether you’re off to work or the mall, so they’ll look good with any outfit. Plus, they’re big enough to fit your entire life into them!

Clutch bags
Another fierce trend we’re loving are long clutch bags. Givenchy had theirs in leather and Michael Kors had one in leather and straw. Match your clutch with a tailored power suit and heels for chic efficiency or a maxi skirt and white shirt for a bold, high-fashion look.

Keep it cute with a small top handle bag
Small top-handle bags were also big on the runways. Gucci and Ralph Lauren’s collections exemplefied the cute little numbers that look best with very girly outfits – they’re perfect for baby showers, weddings and parties where you can wear your most dolled-up dress and heels.
