Joburg’s favourite Fancy but Easy eatery opens in Fourways

If you’re a Joburger who enjoys the finer things in life, then it’s unlikely that you haven’t heard of or popped into a Pantry at some point. Famous for their Fancy but Easy approach to retail and easy-to-grab, fine food, in particular their soft-serves, Pantry is synonymous with artisanal eats and warm hospitality.

The new 1,000 square-metre store joins Rosebank, Bassonia and Hazelwood, as well as a pop-up at The Marc in Sandton, and uniquely offers a sushi counter, delicious rotisserie chicken corner, handmade focaccia open sandwiches, and an interactive kids' play area. Pantry was launched by chef David Higgs and businessman Gary Kyriacou in 2020, combining food retail with a chef-inspired eatery, all at a Rosebank petrol station. It has since expanded into a unique food retail concept that combines exceptional ingredients, handmade goods, and a family-business vibe to deliver one of the country’s most successful hospitality brands.

At its heart is Pantry’s food emporium, packed with the things that make an everyday meal feel like a treat. Freshly baked breads and handmade butters sit alongside cheeses, cold meats, dips and spreads, with shelves bringing together products from a range of small local suppliers and the imported favourites Pantry customers have come to know and love. Fresh produce, quality meat, prepared meals, delectable pastries, coffee, and a dedicated ice-cream counter give shoppers plenty to take home, as do the freshly cut flowers, delicate decor items and beautiful gifting that make the store a destination to see and experience. “Pantry is known for its exceptional products, a premium everyday experience and a strong sense of community,” says Pantry CEO Greg Solomon. “Fourways has been on the radar for a while, and we’re thrilled to bring our offering to this friendly neighbourhood in Gauteng.”Solomon says the response to the new location has been phenomenal, with over 10,000 people visiting on opening weekend.

Open from 06h00 - 22h00 on weekdays and 06h00 - 24h00 on weekends, Pantry also delivers a more accessible destination eatery. Whether popping in for a croissant and coffee on the school run, a gift on the way to a birthday or some last-minute ingredients for a late-night dinner date, Pantry is the place to be.
