Nomzamo Mbatha to host AMVCA 2026 alongside Bovi Ugboma

South African powerhouse Nomzamo Mbatha is set to take centre stage once again—this time as one of the hosts of the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. The award-winning actress, producer and humanitarian will co-host the prestigious ceremony alongside Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma.

The 12th edition of the AMVCAs will take place on 9 May 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, at the iconic Eko Hotel and Suites, bringing together the continent’s biggest names in film and television for a night that celebrates African storytelling at its finest.

This year’s hosting announcement signals a major shift for the awards, with Mbatha and Bovi stepping into a role long held by veteran presenter IK Osakioduwa, who has fronted the ceremony since its inception in 2013. The change marks what many are calling a “new era” for the AMVCAs, one that blends fresh energy with established excellence.

For Mbatha, the moment adds yet another milestone to an already global career. From her breakout role in Isibaya to international recognition in Coming 2 America and her executive production work on Shaka iLembe, she has steadily positioned herself as one of Africa’s most influential cultural figures.

Beyond the screen, Mbatha continues to expand her impact as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and global advocate, while also earning recognition on platforms like the TIME100 Next list, further cementing her status as more than just an entertainer.

Her co-host, Bovi, brings a different but equally powerful dynamic. Known for his sharp wit and commanding stage presence, the comedian has promised to bring “energy, laughs, and magic” to one of Africa’s biggest entertainment stages.

The AMVCAs remain one of the continent’s most important cultural platforms, honouring excellence across film and television since 2013. With over 30 award categories spanning acting, directing and technical craft, the ceremony continues to spotlight the depth and diversity of African storytelling.

With Mbatha and Bovi at the helm, anticipation is already building. Their pairing, described as a fusion of global star power and comedic brilliance, promises a night that is not only celebratory but culturally defining. All eyes now turn to Lagos as Africa prepares for one of its biggest nights in entertainment.
