South Africans react to Netflix’s Yoh! Bestie romantic comedy

Netflix’s latest South African rom-com, Yoh! Bestie, is officially streaming, and it’s already sparking conversations online. The feel-good film dives into the complicated, often unspoken emotions that exist between best friends, wrapped in humour, heart and breathtaking local scenery.

The story follows Thando, played by Katlego Lebogang, who finds her world turned upside down when her longtime best friend Charles (Siya Sepotokele) returns home engaged. What should be a happy reunion quickly becomes emotionally layered when Thando is asked to stand by his side at a destination wedding in Knysna. As wedding preparations unfold against the lush coastal backdrop, unresolved feelings begin to surface, forcing both characters to confront what they truly mean to each other.

At its core, Yoh! Bestie explores the delicate line between friendship and love, and what happens when timing has never quite been on your side. The film balances romantic tension with sharp comedic moments, giving audiences both swoon-worthy scenes and relatable friendship dynamics.

The supporting cast includes Moliehi Didie Makobane, Kagiso Modupe, Fikile Mthwalo and Yonda Thomas, who each bring warmth and personality to the ensemble. Together, they create a vibrant, distinctly South African love story that feels both modern and universal.

With romance, drama and plenty of “what if?” moments, Yoh! Bestie is quickly becoming a must-watch for rom-com lovers looking for something homegrown yet globally relatable.
