Tyla joins Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 in a major career milestone

Grammy-winning global superstar Tyla is officially joining the Disney and Pixar family in Toy Story 5, stepping into voice acting as a brand-new character, the Inflatable Flamingo, introduced exclusively for the Sub-Saharan localized version of the film.

This marks Tyla’s second venture into animation, following her contribution to the 2025 Smurfs movie soundtrack, where she performed “Everything Goes With Blue,” alongside international stars in the animated musical project. The collaboration further positioned her as one of the few African artists successfully bridging global pop music and family animation franchises.

In a video announcement, Tyla expressed her excitement about joining the iconic Pixar universe,  "When I was asked to join the cast of Toy Story 5, I was so excited" she further adds " I just couldn't believe that the offer was even presented to me" Tyla says "I grew up watching Toy Story it's such a big movie in my family, my parents love it -my whole family loves it" Tyla adds "and now we gonna watch and hear little bit of my voice in it"

In Toy Story 5, the Inflatable Flamingo is described as a playful, comedic pool toy that unexpectedly becomes part of the gang’s latest adventure as they confront a rapidly evolving world where technology competes with traditional play. The character is expected to add humour, warmth, and a distinctly South African cultural flair to the film.

Tyla joins a star-studded voice cast that includes returning legends Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), Joan Cusack (Jessie), and Annie Potts (Bo Peep), alongside major new additions such as Greta Lee (Lilypad), Keanu Reeves (Duke Caboom), Conan O’Brien (Smarty Pants), and Craig Robinson (Atlas). Music superstar Bad Bunny also joins the franchise as Pizza with Sunglasses, while Taylor Swift contributes an original song to the soundtrack.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 continues the franchise’s “Toy Meets Tech” storyline, exploring how Woody, Buzz, and Jessie adapt to a world increasingly dominated by digital devices.

Toy Story 5 is set for release on 19 June 2026, with anticipation building for its expanded global cast and fresh storytelling direction.
