Netflix South Africa just turned 10, and naturally, the celebration came with a dress code worthy of the occasion: “Tomorrow’s Black Tie.” The brief? Think traditional red-carpet glamour, but with a futuristic twist. And Mzansi’s biggest stars understood the assignment.
Held in Johannesburg as part of Netflix’s decade-long celebration in South Africa, the event brought together some of the biggest names from the local entertainment industry, including Pearl Thusi, Khanyi Mbau, Thando Thabethe, Connie Ferguson, Thembi Seete, Ntobeko Shishi, Luyanda Zwane, Sandile Mahlangu, Zandile Msutwana, Diaan Lawrenson and S’dumo Mtshali, among others.
But while the night was about celebrating a decade of South African stories on the streaming platform, the fashion was a story of its own. From liquid-metal glamour and crystal-covered gowns to bold prints and futuristic tailoring, guests interpreted “Tomorrow’s Black Tie” in very different ways.Netflix has spent the past 10 years putting South African talent and stories on screens around the world, and on this particular night, Mzansi’s style stars made sure they were just as memorable as the stories being celebrated.
