Simon Porte Jacquemus latest collection La Paysan was an homage to his rural upbringing and his family. Simon's genius in storytelling through design is unmatched and he continues to maintain an excitement and passion with a childlike wonder for every collection he conceptualisers. Before his show he released videos that depicted various scenes from his childhood and so began the journey of his latest offering.
Celebrities like Matthew Mcconaughey and his wife, fashion critics, industry insiders and influencers flocked to Versailles to experience and immerse themselves in the world of Jacquemus. The entire fashion collection was a curation of scenes from his past and dating back three generations. The beauty of this collection for me was the way he introduced "vegetables" crafted in leather as accessories. A 'leek' bag, grass woven bags and vegetable boxes holding smaller bags in the colour red reminiscent of tomatoes. The intricate details and the transformation in to stunning luxury items were pure genius. The craftsmanship was on another level and feels as though nature itself crafted these pieces.
Some of the standout pieces from this runway show were the chocolate brown leather jacket, the voluminous skirts and blazers synched at the waist paired with tights which both had matching jagged like details. The collection described by Vogue was that it felt very mature and sophisticated, to which I wholeheartedly agree but at the same time a sense of playfulness and lightheartedness that shines through. You would imagine yourself adorned in his pieces enjoying a picturesque lunch in the countryside of Provence sipping on some wine.
Simon has delighted us with his new collection as he continues to raise the bar. If he has taught us anything through this new offering is that to have your family believe in your dreams has the potential to lead to great things.
