Ayra Starr has officially entered her Starrgirl era, and she is doing it with some of the biggest names in music.The Nigerian Afropop star has released her highly anticipated third studio album, Starrgirl, today, August 14, marking another major milestone in her fast-rising global career.
The 16-track project follows 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21, but this time, Starr sounds less like an artist proving herself and more like one fully aware of the space she occupies. And if the title is a statement of confidence, the guest list certainly backs it up.
Across Starrgirl, Ayra Starr brings together a seriously impressive mix of Nigerian, African and international talent. There is Wizkid on “Gimme Dat”, Rema on “Who’s Dat Girl”, ZAYN on “Heaven Baby”, Leon Thomas on “Pressure”, French singer Theodora on “Ms. Paper”, Kwn on “Amazing” and Colombian star Danny Ocean on the remix of “Hot Body.”Perhaps the most unexpected collaboration is “Heaven Baby” with ZAYN.
The pairing brings together two very different musical worlds, with the former One Direction star's pop and R&B sensibilities meeting Starr's Afropop sound. It is also one of the collaborations that generated the most conversation ahead of the album's release. Then there is Rema, her Mavin Records labelmate, on “Who’s Dat Girl”.
The collaboration feels particularly fitting given both artists' positions as two of the label's biggest contemporary stars. Their previous individual successes have made the pairing one fans have been waiting to hear in full.
Starr also continues to look beyond the Afrobeats circuit. The inclusion of Theodora and Danny Ocean expands the album's international palette, while Leon Thomas brings another layer of contemporary R&B to the project. It is a guest list that reflects just how far Starr's music has travelled since she first arrived on the scene.
But Starrgirl is not simply a collection of big-name collaborations. The album also makes room for Starr's more personal side, with tracks including “Letter To God,” “Misunderstood” and “Where Do We Go” sitting alongside the more dancefloor-ready moments. “Dance”, meanwhile, captures the project's confident spirit, centring on the feeling of being comfortable with who she has become.

The album has been a long time coming. Its rollout began with “Gimme Dat” before “Hot Body”, “Who’s Dat Girl”, “Where Do We Go” and “Tornado” continued building anticipation around the project. Now, with all 16 tracks finally out, Starrgirl feels like more than another album from one of Afropop's brightest stars. It is a snapshot of an artist expanding her sound, her audience and her ambitions — while bringing some very familiar names along for the ride. Ayra Starr may have named the album Starrgirl, but this era makes one thing clear: she is thinking much bigger than the title.
